Anyone walking through the preschool and elementary classrooms the first week in February is transported to one of the seven continents. Each year, South Baldwin Christian Academy (SBCA) teachers set aside time in their classes to study a continent. Students learn about geography, customs, and culture with an emphasis being placed on the missionaries to that part of the world.
Preschool students even got a science lesson related to their continent, Antarctica, learning about how penguins stay warm in such a cold environment. Third graders are able to take a field trip to the Australia Zoo virtually.
By the time students are ready to leave elementary school and head to middle school, they will have studied all seven continents.
Missions week always ends with a student favorite, “trip around the world.” Students travel from room to room and learn about different cultures by sampling foods, receiving lessons on the countries featured and hearing how God is using missionaries to reach those in other countries.
