We are seven weeks into the 2017-2018 school year and a lot is happening already! We recently held the first of our quarterly Coffee Connection (CC) events. CC are intended to connect South Baldwin Christian Academy (SBCA) families with each other and with the school. They occur once a quarter, typically on Friday mornings at 8.m., and last less than one hour. We encourage you to plan on attending our next CC.
Mark Your Calendar for the Next Coffee Connection!
- Friday, December 1st, 8a.m.: Preschool & Elementary
- Friday, December 8th, 8a.m.: Middle & High School Families
If you were able to attend our first CC, it was great spending time with you. The focus of the gathering was to welcome new families and welcome back old friends. We spent time:
- Getting to Know Each Other
- Winning Prizes
- And Learning More About SBCA
We found out that we have some parents that have lived in Baldwin County their entire lives and some that have moved here as recently as this June. The prize winner for the largest age span between children was 9 years old to 50 years old!
Getting to Know Mrs. Cranston
Mrs. Cranston shared that she moved here from Indiana with her family 18 years ago. She taught elementary school at a public school in Indiana right out of college and stayed home for a few years when her daughters were young. When they started attending a small private Christian school, she began to teach there and fell in love with Christian education. Her oldest daughter, Isabella, is currently a freshman at the University of Alabama and her youngest, Gabrielle, is a freshman at SBCA.
SBCA History & Athletic Program Development
We also shared the history of SBCA. A lot has happened in the last 10 years! SBCA began on a church campus in Orange Beach in 2008 with just 35 students and 3 staff members. The school continued to grow each year until 2013 when we transitioned onto our current campus and almost doubled in size. Shortly afterwards, SBCA obtained accreditation, added two classroom buildings to the campus and construction is currently underway on a 13,400 square-foot gymnatorium. Most recently we joined the Panhandle Christian Conference (PCC) and we are excited to announce that our first sports team, cross country, runs in their first race this Saturday.
EXCEL Imagine. Tomorrow. Update
Last school year we embarked on our first capital campaign, EXCEL Imagine. Tomorrow., and received just under $200,000 in pledges. Of the amount pledged, roughly $35,000 has been given. So far campaign funds have been used to make exciting progress toward each of our three identified priority areas including:
- The Student Experience – Additional fencing, security cameras and a surveillance monitor were installed.
- Classroom Technology and Innovation – Smart board technology is now featured in all of our middle and high school classrooms
- Campus and Family Ministry – An AV system is being priced out for installation in the new gymnatorium.
We reviewed all of the resources available on the EXCEL website, www.ExcelCampaign.com. The website is a great way to familiarize yourself with the priorities of the EXCEL campaign and an easy tool to reference when sharing the campaign with others. If you have already pledged towards the EXCEL campaign, you can visit the EXCEL website to begin giving towards your pledged amount now.
Stay Connected & Get Involved!
Finally, we encouraged parents to stay connected and get involved by participating in one of our upcoming CC events, following us on social media, joining our Moms in Touch Prayer Group that meets each Wednesday morning at 8a.m., attending the SBCA Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday, October 28th, or choosing from one of the various volunteer service opportunities available during the year for events, classroom needs and other special projects.
