SBCA staff and families are excited about the school’s growth and look forward to the continued development of athletic and fine arts programs now that the Mimi Mayes Gymnatorium has been completed. During the first semester, we sent out a twelve-question parent satisfaction survey to give parents an opportunity to share their feedback on the quality of our education and programs. Based on the responses to those questions as well as comments from the open-ended questions, I am happy to report that the mission and vision of the school, to provide students with an excellent education in a safe and caring environment while helping them reach their full God-given potential, is being carried forth and the gospel is being advanced.
The survey showed that the majority of the families in our school are satisfied with the quality of our academic programs, extra-curricular activities, and staff. Parents also have great excitement and anticipation about our future growth and development as a school and reported that they would recommend our school to others. This feedback was so encouraging to receive. Our staff works hard each day to accomplish our mission and your feedback helps us determine whether we are reaching our goals.
While we love to hear positive feedback, we also recognize that each year brings with it special opportunities for growth and improvement. The two areas mentioned most often in response to the question, “I would like to see our school change in these ways,” addressed parent communication and increasing the frequency of chapel services.
Your input is important to us and beginning in January, Pre-K and elementary students began a weekly chapel experience. We would also like to invite parents to join teachers in serving on one of our newly formed school-planning committees to help improve school and parent communication and encourage parent involvement. The following opportunities are available:
- Campus Pride: Responsible for beautification and improving the campus grounds and playground.
- Booster Club: Responsible for raising funds to support athletics.
- Events Committee: Responsible for planning and executing our many SBCA events.
- Afterschool Enrichment Committee: Responsible for helping plan our many after school enrichment programs.
We are excited about teachers and parents working together to make SBCA all it can be. If you are interested in serving on a planning committee, please contact the office by responding to this email or calling us at 251-968-1230. Sign up sheets will also be available at our upcoming Coffee Connection events.
Parents of pre-k – 4th grade students are invited to join us for Coffee Connection next Friday, February 1st from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the SBCA Gymnatorium for some coffee, snacks, and time to connect with each other. I will be discussing the topic of “gratitude” and sharing the benefits of having a grateful heart. Our Coffee Connection event for parents of 5th – 12th grade students will be held the following Friday, February 8th. In addition to an opportunity for us to connect with one another and receive instruction on topics of interest, Coffee Connection will now include school news updates and a question and answer session. An update on the extended school day will also be provided at the upcoming Coffee Connection events. We hope that you will plan to join us.
The 2018 – 2019 school year has been a year of great growth and development. I look forward to finishing this year with as much momentum, enthusiasm and excitement as we have begun!
Blessings,
Dawn Cranston
