Dear SBCA Families,
I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving and some well-spent time with loved ones.
I am writing to give a report on behalf of the SBCA Board of Directors. The Board held a meeting in November before the Thanksgiving break.
During the meeting, the Board received an update from Mr. Lance, Mrs. Cranston and Mr. Burger. These updates included topics such as administrative improvements, the new NWEA assessment platform, a campus security update, professional development opportunities for our teachers, and admissions. Additionally, school events and our athletic program were reviewed. The administrative team is working strongly together to support the teachers, as they all work to fulfill the school’s mission.
The NWEA Assessment (nwea.org) tools will provide a great resource for parents, administration, and teachers to help us monitor and continually improve the learning outcomes of our students.
In addition, the board now reviews the tuition rate and fees each year at the November meeting. The plan is to implement small, incremental increases each year as appropriate as opposed to sudden, irregularly large increases. For the 2020-2021 school year, tuition will only increase 3%, or approximately $111 – $129, depending on the grade level.
Tuition revenues do not cover all operational expenses and it is therefore important that we do make small adjustments at minimum to keep up with increasing costs while also doing our best to improve fundraising efforts to make up the differences. All campus and overall improvement initiatives are currently funded through donations for that purpose.
As the Fall semester comes to a close, I can’t help but think that this has been the best school year in SBCA history.
On a very special note, the board honored Mr. Lance Odeneal at this board meeting. As you all know, Lance came to work for SBCA a while back and plays an instrumental role on the campus and its culture. SBCA would not be the same if we didn’t see Lance in the mornings while dropping our children off or if our children didn’t’ see him all around campus during the day. Only certain special people have the ability to impact us with their smile. As Lance’s board term came to an end, Lance and the board felt it was far more impactful and important for him to serve on staff than on the board. When you have the opportunity, thank Lance for all he continues to do for SBCA.
On behalf of the SBCA Board of Directors, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
