The SBCA administration is focused on teacher professional development. Teacher schedules are created to allow time throughout the week, during the school day, for teachers to meet with each other and their principals on a regular basis to explore ways to increase student learning and engagement.
Time is also set aside monthly for the whole staff to meet together for ongoing professional development.
The Monday after Fall Break, teachers spent an entire day of professional development attending different sessions, listening to speakers, and learning and reviewing teaching strategies.
Mr. Lance led a session on Bloom’s Taxonomy. Bloom’s Taxonomy is a classification of the different objectives and skills that educators set for their students (learning objectives). Mr. Lance encouraged teachers to move students to higher levels of learning.
Mrs. Cranston taught teachers to check for understanding. She provided several activities that teachers could adapt across subject and grade levels to engage student learning and allow teachers to check for understanding.
