Head of School
Dawn Cranston has spent over 25 years as an educator. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis on elementary and early childhood education from Indiana University. She earned her Master’s of Education degree studying Educational Leadership at Concordia University. Mrs. Cranston has two daughters who attend South Baldwin Christian Academy. Mrs. Cranston has worked in both the public and private sectors of education. It has been a joy for her to serve in Christian education since 2005.
Director of Operations and Finance
Karen Long has over 25 years of experience in education. She attended the University of Mobile where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis on Elementary and Early Childhood Education. Ms. Long also did Master’s work at the University of South Alabama. In the public school system, she taught at-risk students ranging from K-4 to 5th grade. In recent years, Ms. Long has drawn on her 25+ years in ministry working with youths and adults as a middle and high school teacher. She serves as a wise and patient guide to the students; she also helps them with college testing and enrollment. Her oldest son graduated from Calvary Christian Learning Center and now attends Auburn University. Her other son graduated from South Baldwin Christian Academy in 2013.
Teri Spence has more than 20 years of experience in Education. She graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education English. She taught middle and high school for 10 years in the Ascension parish school system. She also worked with at-risk and ESL students for 2 years in Irving, Texas. Ms. Spence was chosen to attend the National Writing Project which is an intensive professional development program designed to improve student writing. Ms. Spence has taught in Christian schools since 2006. She has two daughters who currently attend South Baldwin Christian Academy.
Ashley Arnould graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education as well as a master’s degree in history. She lives in Orange Beach with her husband. She has taught at both the middle and high school level. As a teacher, she infuses her passion for her subjects with abundant energy that always aims to get students to think. She is very committed to providing a learning environment that is both exciting and rigorous, one that empowers both student and teacher in pursuing learning. She places high expectations for her students and supports them so they can rise to those expectations.
Mrs. Beth Schrader studied mathematics at Huntingdon College, math and statistics at the University of West Florida, and math education at the University of South Alabama. She holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree and is State Certified with “highly qualified” status. She spent one year at Fairhope High School teaching Geometry and Algebra before coming to South Baldwin Christian Academy. She is also an active P.A.D.I. scuba instructor for Down Under Dive Shop in Gulf Shores, AL. When not living out her Christian Mission as a middle-school math and science teacher, Mrs. Schrader is most likely underwater somewhere. Her hobbies include cave diving, underwater videography, taekwondo, and she enjoys competing in triathlons.
Rena Samson has recently moved to the Gulf Shores area from Meridian, MS. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She has 12 years experience teaching with 5 years teaching experience in Christian education. She has recently been certified to teach special education. Her family includes a husband, 3 children, 1 dog and 2 cats. During her free time she enjoys cooking and reading.
Cassandra Demarest is new to our teaching staff but not our SBCA family. She has been our school secretary for 2 ½ years. She is a graduate of Gulf Shores High School and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Troy University and will soon finish her second Bachelor’s degree in History. Mrs. Demarest enjoys crafting, paddleboarding, and soccer.. She is married to Brandon Demarest who was a Sgt. in the Army and served in Iraq. They were stationed in Kansas and Germany. Mrs. Demarest and her husband have two children, Marley and Tucker, both of whom attend SBCA.
Julie Hamner is originally from Indiana and recently moved to Gulf Shores in 2015. She has a bachelors of science in secondary education from Indiana University with an emphasis in social studies and more than 5 years teaching experience. It is her passion to help students find Jesus in all the core subjects and to teach them to trust God with their dreams. Mrs. Hamner and her husband have two children that attend South Baldwin Christian Academy. She loves dance, art, literature, and her chocolate toy poodle, Brandon.
Jenny Erikson graduated from Auburn University in General Science Education, grades 4-12. She has 10 years of teaching experience in the Elementary and Middle School levels. Jenny is married to Thor Erikson and they have one child, Gunnar, who attends SBCA. In her free time, Jenny enjoys travelling, riding her bike, yoga and making Gunnar laugh.
Kim Anderson was born in raised in Baldwin County and is an alumni of Robertsdale High School. She graduated from the University of South Alabama “highly qualified” with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. Mrs. Anderson spent seven years teaching in Baldwin County Schools. She is married to Chad Anderson from Montgomery, AL. They have two daughters who attend SBCA. The Anderson family loves the beach, boating, and seeing new movies together.
Meredith Fredrickson graduated from University of Montevallo with degrees in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. She taught in Baldwin county public schools for 8 years before taking a break to raise her children. She has three children along with a step daughter. She and her husband live in Orange Beach and own a Dolphin Cruise so in her free time she loves to be on the water mingling with passengers and watching the dolphin play. They attend Christian Life Foley. She is excited to be a part of South Baldwin Christian Academy.
Lisa Hand graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in k4 through second grades. Mrs. Hand provides firm boundaries in a loving environment that gives her students a great foundation to begin their education. She has two sons who attend South Baldwin Christian Academy.
5 Year Old Kindergarten
Emily Chambliss graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development with a concentration in Child Development and Family Studies. She has 10 years of experience in the classroom and has conducted teacher and parent workshops. She has lived in Orange Beach since 1990 with her husband and their two sons. She enjoys cooking, boating and spending time with friends and family.
4 Year Old Pre-Kindergarten
Heidi Forsythe Rogers is originally from Ohio. She moved to the Gulf Coast in 2003. Mrs. Rogers is an extremely talented teacher. She has a natural ability to inspire young children to reach their potential. She has been teaching preschool children since 2004 and is the head of the aftercare program. Mrs. Rogers also runs a successful summer program for children. Mrs. Rogers, or Mrs. Heidi as the students call her, is at once a firm disciplinarian and a kind role-model. She is working toward her degree in Elementary Education.
4 Year Old Pre-Kindergarten
Vickee Seavall studied Elementary Education at Tennessee Temple University. She and her husband Brian were houseparents at Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, MS for 7 ½ years. Mrs. Seavall helped to begin and directed a Mother’s Day Out program for 5 years. She has taught preschool since 2004. Her oldest daughter graduated from Calvary Christian Learning Center and is attending Pensacola State College. Her three other children are students here at SBCA.

P.E., Music, Art
Robin Schlauder studied Emergency Medical Services at Columbus State Community College. She worked as a paramedic and firefighter in Ohio. Mrs. Schlauder is a gifted artist. She is also an athlete. She taught fitness classes and swimming for many years and is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. These qualifications made her the perfect choice for teaching Art and P.E. Our students have flourished in Art under Mrs. Schlauder’s teaching, and they love her creativity and enthusiasm as their P.E. teacher. Her oldest daughter is a recent graduate of Calvary Christian Learning Center and is currently attending Faulkner. Her other two children, are also students here at South Baldwin Christian Academy.

Mr. Odeneal was born and raised in Alabama. He and his family came to the Gulf Shores area in 2002 and would rather live here than anywhere else. He, his wife Pam, and their two sons have been connected with many of these teachers and families since 2004. They have volunteered and spent much time at the school since the very first day and consider it their mission to help SBCA in it’s vision to minister to the students and their families in love. Mr. Odeneal’s oldest son graduated from Calvary Christian Learning Center and currently attends University of South Alabama. His youngest son is in high school here at South Baldwin Christian Academy.
He is very excited to be a part of the SBCA team. He really enjoys greeting the families in the morning and helping keep our beautiful campus and classrooms looking great and in working order.
Front Desk – Administrative Assistant
Pam Odeneal will most likely be your first contact at SBCA by phone, in person or on the web. She strives to be a welcoming presence at the front office. Pam was born and raised in Alabama and has been happily married to our very own Lance Odeneal since 1990. Their oldest son attends University of South Alabama and the youngest is a senior here at SBCA. Along with Lance, she has spent a lot of time with this school since the very first day and has known many of our high school students since kindergarten. She considers her job also a ministry to help make things run as smoothly as possible and instill a little joy in daily life.
