During the summer of 2019, SBCA began developing its goal of starting athletics for the middle and high school students. In order for SBCA to build a successful athletic program, the school joined the Christian Middle School Athletic Association (CMSAA) and the Panhandle Christian Conference (PCC).
This last fall we were able to field our very first middle school volleyball team comprised of 14 young ladies under the direction of SBCA Head Coach Scott Gulledge and Assistant Coach Ashley Cooper. We are very excited that our Lady Knights have continued to improve their skills and are now participating on local travel teams.
Our plans for next year are to field a junior varsity and varsity squad under SBCA Coach Gulledge and Coach Cooper’s direction. Our SBCA Lady Knights have made great advances with learning the fundamental skills of volleyball and we are anticipating a very successful 2020 season.
During the winter months, we were able to formulate a junior varsity basketball team and a varsity cheerleading squad under the direction of coaches Scott Gulledge and Danielle Hoover. Our JV basketball team was comprised of 10 young men from grades 7-11 who competed in the PCC. They played in 14 games and showed vast improvement with each passing week.
Our varsity cheerleading team was comprised of 9 young ladies from grades 7-12. Our cheerleaders, under the direction of SBCA Coach Danielle Hoover, have done a fantastic job with boosting school spirit. We are very proud of our Lady Knight cheerleaders. New students interested in being on the cheer squad will have the opportunity to show their skills at tryouts this upcoming fall.
Archery has officially begun and is off to a great start with 18 students participating in the training classes. They are under the direction of SBCA Coaches Felicia Hall, Paul and Katie Jordan, and Jenny Erikson. Although competition has not begun for our Archery Team, we hope to bring that opportunity to the students during the 2020/2021 school year. The top 5 students were presented at our Sports Banquet that was held in February. This was also an opportunity to honor our other varsity and junior varsity teams and coaches for all the hard work they have put in this past year.
